$60,000 grant awarded to help extend Schuylkill River Trail

Pennsylvania House Democratic leader Joanna McClinton recently announced a $60,000 grant that will go toward extending the Schuylkill River Trail.

The funding, which was awarded through the Community Conservation Partnerships Program, will help invest in a trail study for the development of over a half-mile of the trail from Bartram’s Garden to Passyunk Avenue.

Back in November, officials had opened up a new segment on the trail that extended from Bartram’s to 61st Street as part of the first phase of a larger project to expand the trail to Passyunk.

“I am very grateful my neighbors can access and enjoy the benefits the Schuylkill River Trail brings to Southwest Philly and its surrounding communities,” McClinton said in a press release. “We must keep working to secure these kinds of dollars to continue connecting even more people to the trail and the great outdoor opportunities it provides.”

The trail includes areas near the South Street Bridge, Christian Street and Grays Ferry.

The Community Conservation Partnerships Program is a grant initiative administered by the state Department of Conservation and Natural Resources that aims to fund projects throughout the state to further develop public parks, recreation areas, trails and various other outdoor spaces.
