January 16

Train Show – from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. The Train Collectors Association Atlantic Division will hold its Polar Bear Train Show and Sale at  Penns Landing Caterers (Sheet Metal Workers Union Hall) 1301 S. Columbus Blvd. There will be 140 tables with a variety of vintage toy trains and repair parts for sale, test track, operating toy train layouts, kids activities, and door prizes for adults and children. Admission is $5 per attendee or per family of two adults and all children 12 and under. Food available for purchase and free parking. The Philadelphia Young Artists Orchestra –  an ensemble of Philadelphia Youth Orchestra Music Institute, kicks off its 2022 season at 3 p.m. with a concert at the Perelman Theater at the Kimmel Center for the Performing Arts. Maestra Rosalind Erwin, PYAO conductor, will lead the youth as they perform Wagner’s Prelude from Die Meistersinger von Nümberg, Coleridge-Taylor’s “The Bamboula,” Janacek’s “Lachian Dances” and Borodin’s “Polovtsian Dances” from Prince Igor. MLK Tribute Concert – At 1 p.m., the Philadelphia Orchestra will present its 32nd annual Martin Luther King Jr. Tribute Concert, led by music director Yannick Nézet-Séguin at the Verizon Hall at the Kimmel Center for the Performing Arts. Prior to the concert, at 11:30 a.m., guests can enjoy a special live episode of the Orchestra’s HearTOGETHER podcast, featuring artists and activists who are working to change the world. Ship To Shore To Slay: Nautical True Crime – from 7- 9 p.m. at the Devil’s Den at 1148 S. 11th St., the next installment of famed true crime nights, enthusiasts can look forward to tales of infamous and obscure cases and killers from sailors on ships to haunted lighthouses, and everything in between, hosted by Sarah Cailean, a former police officer and detective. Take part in themed trivia and indulge in signature Devil’s Den fare including Salmon BLT, Diablo, Aventinus, Traditional Mussels and a house-made seasonal Seafood Chowder.

Dr. Danielle Allen on “Our Declaration,” – from 6-7 p.m., political theorist and author Dr. Danielle Allen will join the American Revolution Museum at 101 S. 3rd St. to discuss her groundbreaking book Our Declaration: A Reading of the Declaration of Independence in Defense of Equality.

The hybrid event will take place in the Museum’s Liberty Hall and will be livestreamed for ticketed online viewers. Proof of vaccination required for the onsite event.
