South Philly-based and woman-owned architectural firm Zimmerman Studio recently was part of the opening-day celebration of the Please Touch Museum’s newest exhibit, “Food & Family.”

In the 3,650-square-foot exhibit, children get to learn about food’s journey from the source to its gathering place and its importance in cultures, communities and traditions. The experience offers role-playing opportunities in three interconnected content areas: shopping market, kitchen and festival settings.

Zimmerman Studio, which specializes in facility renovations and adaptive reuse projects for educational and institutional facilities, expressed its excitement about being able to contribute architectural services to the exhibit.

“The Zimmerman Studio team was excited to be a part of the team creating an immersive experience for children visiting the Museum,” said Pamela Zimmerman, the lead project manager for Zimmerman Studios, in a press release. “The children loved all of the different areas to explore, and it was wonderful to see the spaces in use in a variety of imaginative ways.”

Food & Family was conceived as a collaboration between the Please Touch Museum and The Giant Company through its For Today’s Table brand platform as a way to provide an opportunity for families to learn about where food comes from, how to prepare it, and how it connects people and communities.
