Police fatally shoot knife-wielding man on Beechwood Street

A police officer shot and killed a knife-wielding man who had allegedly stabbed his 72-year-old aunt and threatened police.

According to police in the city’s 1st District in South Philly, officers responded to a call on the 2000 block of Beechwood Street at approximately 3:45 p.m. on Dec. 15 when they found a 36-year-old man who was actively stabbing the woman.

Police said they ordered the man to drop the knife, but he refused. The officers tased the suspect, which had no effect, according to police. The suspect then lunged at police and one officer shot the suspect, police said.

The man was transported to Presbyterian Hospital where he was pronounced dead at 5:10 p.m., police said. The stabbing victim was also transported to Presbyterian, where she died at 5:37 p.m. from multiple stab wounds, police said.
