Suspect awaiting trial in John Chamberlain murder

A woman charged with murder is awaiting trial for the death of 29-year-old John Chamberlain, who was stabbed to death in South Philly’s Newbold neighborhood last month.

Lauren Hargrove, 30, of Sharon Hill, was arrested by police and charged with murder on March 19 after she allegedly stabbed Chamberlain several times inside an apartment on the 1900 block of S. 17th Street six days earlier, according to police reports.

Chamberlain was stabbed at about 5:36 p.m. and was pronounced dead at 5:58 p.m. by medics, police said. Police said Hargrove was Chamberlain’s girlfriend.

Hargrove was denied bail at her preliminary hearing on March 20 and remains in custody at the County Correctional Facility Detention Center until her next hearing on May 31. (Photo provided by Chamberlain’s family).
