With Mother’s Day coming up, Kouklet Brazilian Bakehouse is offering pre-sales for special Mother’s Day “Flor-de-maio” pastry boxes at its storefront at 1647 E. Passyunk Ave.

The boxes, which are priced at $35 and can be ordered by Wednesday, May 4, contain four dishes that represent flowers Kouklet owner Mardhory Santos-Cepeda discovered as a child while living with her mother and grandmother. They include:

  • Pavê de Hibisco e Morango: a trifle with hibiscus custard, strawberry and vanilla
  • Jasmine Sonho: a sourdough donut filled with milk custard
  • Bolo de Rolo de Limão com Lavanda: lime cake filled with milk truffle
  • Bombom de Brigadeiro de Flor de Laranjeira: three chocolate truffles with orange

“When I think about mothers, I think about flowers,” Cepeda said in a press release. “Not only because of the delicate and feminine aspects, but also because of my own personal life. My two grandmothers and mother are my inspiration for everything I do, and they always had a beautiful relationship with plants and flowers.”

Cepeda said that “Flor-de-maio,” a flower native to Brazil whose name translates to “flower of many,” was one that especially caught her attention growing up and served as the main inspiration for the pastry boxes.

“That flower represents suavity, which brings good energy to the house where it’s cultivated,” Cepeda said. “Its vivid colors symbolize life and vivacity, and if given as a gift, it symbolizes an action of pure and true feelings. So for this Mother’s Day, we decided to make a pastry box inspired by that flower.”

Pre-orders can be picked up on Mother’s Day, Sunday, May 8, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. No boxes will be for sale on Mother’s Day, as only pre-sales are accepted. Pre-orders are available at kouklet.com.
