Dish it Up – From 6-9 p.m. at Lincoln Financial FIeld, Women Against Abuse Inc. will host the 14th annual event and women chefs will bring their culinary skills to compete for best dish of the night, selected by a panel of celebrity judges. This event is Philadelphia’s only women chef competition and attracts close to 500 business and community leaders and food aficionados. Former Philadelphia Eagle Troy Vincent and Tommi Vincent will be honored as the 2022 Advocates of the Year. Tickets start at $150 and are available at  www.womenagainstabuse.org/events/dish-it-up.

Friends of Whitman Library Spring Cleanup – from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., volunteer to help clean up and beautify Whitman’s yard. All gardening/cleanup supplies and bottled water will be provided by the Friends. Meet outside of the library. Rain date is May 22.

The Colour of Culture: A Celebration of the African Diaspora – a free live art gallery and two-day exhibition showcasing local black visual artists and live music. Celebrating the cultural diversity of creatives in communities of color. Live music showcase and cypher lounge with Milena & friends of Solfed Open Mic, a roundtable discussion on Black Arts and Liberation, a custom vintage clothing shop by Rashied Amon of the Black Culture Museum, paired with Sounds of the Diaspora with DJ Reezey and “Brown St. Café,” which is a black-owned coffee brand-tasting by ZBE coffee accompanied by artwork by Nile Livingston. From 1-7 p.m. on May 21 and 1-6 p.m. on May 22 at 1226 N. 52nd St.

Chef Christopher Kearse takes over Stina Pizzeria – Guest Chef Series benefitting local charity, Kearse will showcase his culinary skills and expertise in a multi-course prix fixe menu focused on contemporary French fare for $85/person with an optional wine pairing for $20/person. A portion of proceeds will benefit Novick Urban Farm, a local nonprofit organization with a mission to provide health food access and education. Twilight in the Gardens – At Magic Gardens, 1020 South St., from 7-10 p.m., BYOB after-hours event celebrating the start of the summer programming season with a live performance by Dendê Macêdo and cold porcelain creations with Ivonne Pinto García. Bring a blanket, snacks and drinks and picnic in the mosaicked labyrinth. At craft tables, hands-on activity with cold porcelain, guests can create incredibly personalized pieces with fine detail, such as jewelry and sculptures. Elegance Quartet free mini concert – At 6:30 p.m. at Stephen Girard Park at 2101 Shunk St. Bring your beach chairs and blankets and enjoy the free concert. Elegance Quartet is an electric string ensemble and rhythm section, performing a wide array of genres from modern pop to classic rock, movie scores to game themes. 

June 2

Philadelphia Orchestra free Pride Concert – at 7:30 p.m. in Verizon Hall at the Kimmel Center for the Performing Arts. Led by Music Director Yannick Nézet-Séguin, the performance will be a celebration of resilience, perseverance, joy and love — themes that will be apparent throughout the evening in Leonard Bernstein’s Overture to Candide, Jennifer Higdon’s Fanfare Ritmico, selections from Barber’s Suite from Souvenirs and selections from Tchaikovsky’s Swan Lake.

June 3-4

‘rADicAl ImAgInAtIoN (and other sorted pandemic musings)’ – On June 3 at 7 p.m. and June 4 at 2 p.m., hosted by Theatre Exile, a Paper Wings event featuring original works written by students from Fanny Jackson Coppin and Franklin Learning Center. Thirty students wrote original works using World Building prompts created by education director, Mx. TS Hawkins. Through imaginative and thematic activities, group assignments and peer review, the students had an opportunity to gain real-world experiences and learn how to collaborate in a writer’s room.
