The Philadelphia Eagles recently announced that they are teaming up with Every Kid Sports, a national nonprofit organization, to help invest in local youth athletes.
The partnership includes an initial community investment of $10,000 as well as a commitment to covering sports registration fees for 500 youth athletes in the Philly area that come from low-income families. The funding will cover the fees through grants provided by Every Kid Sports Pass, Every Kid Sports’s flagship program.
“We are excited to work with Every Kid Sports to provide more opportunities for our city’s youth athletes to engage in the sports they love,” said Julie Hirshey, the vice president of community relations for the Eagles, in a press release. “We look forward to helping break down the financial barriers facing families in the Philadelphia community and allowing more kids to get on the playing field.”
The second NFL collaboration for Every Kid Sports, the main goals of the partnership are to increase awareness of the Every Kid Sports Pass and encourage participation in youth sports in the Philly area.
“We are extremely happy to establish this new partnership that will allow more kids to play recreational sports in Philly,” said Natalie Hummel, the founder and executive director of Every Kid Sports. “We look forward to working with the Eagles organization to ensure that families know about our program and all kids can experience the positive benefits of playing.”
Originally founded in 2009, Every Kid Sports provides grants to kids ages 4-18 who qualify for social services to help cover registration fees for youth sports. Eligible applicants receive support for each kid in their families for three sports seasons (fall, winter and spring). Since its founding, the organization has helped over 80,000 kids nationwide participate in sports.
