Flower Show heading back to Convention Center

After two years of beautiful exhibitions at South Philly’s FDR Park, the Philadelphia Flower Show is returning to its roots for 2023.

The Flower Show, which just wrapped up another successful year in its nearly 200-year run, will return to the Pennsylvania Convention Center next year, where it has normally staged the enormous event over the last quarter-century. It will also return to the month of March, with 2023 dates slated for March 4-12.

The Pennsylvania Horticultural Society made the announcement at the conclusion of the 2022 show, which brought thousands of flower enthusiasts to South Philly from June 11-19.

“Producing the Flower Show outdoors at FDR Park allowed PHS to continue this beautiful and historic event during a tumultuous time,” said Matt Rader, PHS president. “We couldn’t have done this without the support of the Fairmount Park Conservancy, Philadelphia Department of Parks & Recreation, the American Swedish Historical Museum, the Sports Complex Special Services District and the Friends of FDR Park, who offered us their support and partnership throughout the past two years.”

The Flower Show transitioned to South Philly’s FDR Park in 2021 due to COVID-19 concerns and returned for round two this year. But prior to that two-year venture at FDR, the show was hosted at the Pennsylvania Convention Center every year since 1996. The Convention Center sits in a historic section of the city and offers a convenience to tourists with other nearby attractions within walking distance. The Convention Center welcomes 31 million visitors annually.

The 2023 Flower Show will return to the Convention Center and welcome guests to experience the first taste of spring indoors. Hosting the show in the confines of the Convention Center allows organizers to provide a perfect indoor backdrop and offer spectacular and decadent floral displays that the award-winning Flower Show is known for, and to embrace the radiance and joy that flowers provide. The 2023 Show will reveal the exciting, energetic and passionate side of flowers, gardens and horticulture.

“We are so excited to welcome guests back to the Pennsylvania Convention Center for the 2023 Philadelphia Flower Show, from March 4-12,” said PHS’s Chief of Shows, Sam Lemheney. “After two monumental years of producing the Flower Show outdoors, our return to this venue brings us back to our indoor home and the ability to create a colorful and fragrant beginning to the spring season.”
