Author donating portion of book sales to MDA

Author/mailman Kevin Sommerer will donate a portion of sales of his fiction novel to the Muscular Dystrophy Association of Philadelphia.

Titled Mason’s Philly: Discreet Denial, the book follows Mason Hall, a private detective in 1998 Philadelphia, as he navigates the city’s criminal underworld while also attempting to maintain his increasingly tumultuous marriage to his wife and investigative partner, Stevie. As they search for an old friend who has gone missing, Hall begins to realize that he must make a choice between the two things he loves most: his career or his woman.

Sommerer grew up in South Philadelphia and is a graduate of Temple University. He previously won the Community College of Philadelphia’s Judith Stark Award for Fiction.

“Many people’s dreams were crushed during the pandemic,” he said. “But if you work hard, believe in yourself, and never lose sight of the goal, anyone’s dreams can become a reality.”

Sommerer will donate $1.50 for every book sold on Amazon through Labor Day, in memory of his grandmother, who passed away in 1980, when he was 9.

“Amazon made self-publishing easy and fun,” he said. “From expert and immediate phone support, cover design templates and an online help center, to a fair and easy royalty plan and Print on Demand technology, which keeps costs down, the publishing experience was surprisingly simple and painless.”

Sommerer is available for appearances. For book clubs, signings, media appearances or delivery of a personalized autographed copy in Philadelphia and surrounding areas, email KevinSommerer@yahoo.com or follow on Instagram @MasonsPhilly.
