Mike “Zoom” Zolk has stepped down as baseball coach at Neumann-Goretti to pursue his next step as an assistant coach/recruiting coordinator at Harford Community College in Maryland.

Zolk, a Neumann-Goretti graduate who was a Philadelphia Catholic League champion and  MVP of the league in 2011, had an extremely successful career as both a player and coach with the Saints, which bookended an outstanding collegiate career at the University of North Carolina.

He took over as head coach at Neumann-Goretti prior to the 2017 high school season and the Saints won both the PCL championship at a PIAA Class 2A state championship that year. The Saints have been perennial contenders in the Catholic league, going a combined 44-18 in the PCL under Zolk in his five seasons at the helm. (2020 was cancelled due to COVID-19). Neumann-Goretti went 9-3 last spring in the PCL.

He will join the staff of a Harford Fighting Owls team that went 48-9 last season, including a 22-4 run in the Maryland Junior College Athletic Conference.

“It is a bittersweet feeling for me,” Zolk said on his Instagram page. “Sad because of what I will be leaving behind yet excited for what the future holds. I can’t thank Neumann-Goretti, my fellow coaches and all of the players that have come through here enough for your dedication to me and our program. My experience at Neumann-Goretti has truly made me who I am today. I am forever indebted to you all.”
