Fundraiser will aid young opera singers

The 60th Annual Mario Lanza Ball will take place at the IATSE Ballroom at 2401 S. Swanson St. on Oct. 23 to raise money for the institute that honors the late South Philly singer.

Guests can pay tribute to the legendary tenor and meet special guests that include Mario Lanza’s daughter Ellisa Lanza Bregman and her husband Robert Bregman.

The Mario Lanza Ball is a fundraiser conducted by the Mario Lanza Institute to help perpetuate Lanza’s dream of aiding young aspiring opera singers through scholarships. The Institute has awarded 300 scholarships including Joyce DiDonato, Juan Diego Florez and Ailyn Perez.

The ball will begin at 6 p.m., and it will include the Mario Lanza Scholarship competition finals, a video presentation, an auction and dinner and dancing to Over the Top Entertainment.
