Walk to end Alzheimer’s

The Alzheimer’s Association Walk to End Alzheimer’s — Philadelphia is taking place on Nov. 12 at Citizens Bank Park. More than 6 million Americans are living with Alzheimer’s disease — a leading cause of death in the United States. Additionally, more than 11 million family members and friends provide care to people living with Alzheimer’s and other dementias. In the tri-state area alone, there are more than 489,000 people living with the disease and 809,000 caregivers. The Alzheimer’s Association Walk to End Alzheimer’s is the world’s largest event to raise awareness and funds for Alzheimer’s care, support and research. PL130 opens new exhibition

PL130 Gallery at PhotoLounge, 130 S. 17th St., will open an exhibition called Projected Exposures, which will run through Nov. 12.

Projected Exposures will highlight 13 Member Moments of inspiring interviews and beautiful photographs that show each photographer’s point of view.

The show invites viewers to delve into the work by also reading the full artist interviews and providing feedback and reactions. The goal of Projected Exposures is not only to encourage the exhibiting photographer’s, but to help viewers develop their own critical eye.

Support Wreaths Across America

Wreaths Across America is organizing an event at Most Holy Redeemer Cemetery, 4268 Richmond St., on Saturday, Dec. 17, at noon.

The group will place fresh, decorated balsam wreaths on every grave and memorial.

New exhibition at Academy of Natural Sciences

A new exhibition opening Saturday, Nov. 19, at the Academy of Natural Sciences of Drexel University, 19th and the Parkway, presents a new perspective on insects and reveals their beauty.

Microsculpture: The Insect Portraits of Levon Biss is a series of portraits that capture the microscopic form of insects in high-resolution detail. It will be on view until April 23, 2023.

Each photograph makes visible the many intricate adaptations to the form of insects.

Award-winning British photographer Levon Biss created the exhibition, which showcases the insect collection of the Oxford University Museum of Natural History in Oxford, England. Pinned specimens from the Academy’s own entomology collection are added to provide visitors an up-close look at the actual size of insects compared to similar-looking insects in the photographs.

South Phila. HS class of ‘68 reunion

The South Philadelphia High School Class of 1968 will hold its 55th reunion on Saturday, Oct. 21, 2023, from noon to 4 p.m. at the Waterfall Room, 2015 S.
