All month long, family and friends can come together to support local businesses and enjoy holiday celebrations.

On Dec. 3, from noon to 4:30 p.m. the SSHD, 200 Pine St., will host its Tree Lighting Ceremony and Mrs. Claus Holiday Market. The pop-up holiday market, presented in collaboration with the Sisterly Love Collective, will feature small businesses, local vendors and creators, live performances including Christmas Caroling by New Groove Music Studio and excerpts from the Nutcracker Ballet courtesy of the Settlement Music School, and a meet-and-greet with Santa. At the event, the SSHD will collect small toys for the South Street Mini Station’s annual toy drive, and MANNA will sell cookie tins to support its mission of using nourishment to heal those in need. The SSHD and the Sisterly Love Collective will also host holiday markets on Dec. 10 and Dec. 17 from noon to 4 p.m.

At 5 p.m. on Dec. 22, the SSHD will light the Headhouse Shambles Menorah. The district will be joined by rabbis from Society Hill Synagogue, B’nai Abraham Chabad and Congregation Kesher Israel. Light refreshments will be available. A Kwanzaa display will be hosted all day on Dec. 26.

Throughout December, the SSHD will have two other festive opportunities to shop small and local. It will host Meet Me on South Street every Thursday highlighting all businesses in the district that have gifts under $25. The district will also celebrate the holidays off South Street at Christmas Village in LOVE Park. Seven “BIPOC-owned” businesses from on and around South Street will be featured at the SSHD storage container in the park.
