On Saturday, September 28, Puentes De Salud is hosting a community discussion about making medical care more accessible to people who speak different languages. This free event is open to everyone, especially those interested in how language barriers affect patient care. Join Puentes’ community health workers, known as Promotoras, for a conversation on how to improve communication in healthcare.

Event Details

The event, called “Language Accessibility in Medical Practice,” will feature four Promotoras from Puentes de Salud: Rosalinda Hernandez, Irma Zamora, Zulma Guzman, and Isabel Garcia. They’ll talk about how to overcome language challenges in healthcare so that everyone gets the care they need, no matter what language they speak. Orfelina Feliz Payne, the Executive Director of Puentes de Salud, will also share her thoughts on why language is so important in understanding and respecting people’s cultures and identities.

This event is part of a larger project called Convalescence, an art installation by Pepón Osorio at Thomas Jefferson University, focusing on healthcare inequalities and community care.

Event Location

The discussion will be held at Puentes De Salud, located at 1700 South Street, Philadelphia, PA 19146. The venue is fully accessible for wheelchairs. If you’re driving, you can park in the South Street Parking Garage or find metered parking nearby.
