Get ready for a unique writing experience this fall at the Cooper Street Workshop! On Saturday, October 12, join fellow writers, both new and experienced, for a thought-provoking workshop titled Writing About Home / Escribir sobre el hogar. Hosted by Rutgers Writers House, this event will be led by Dr. Mercy Romero, offering insights into the deep connections between place and personal storytelling. Whether you’re a seasoned writer or just getting started, this is a great opportunity to explore your relationship with “home.”
Event Details
The workshop, part of the Cooper Street Workshops Fall 2024 collection, is designed to bring the community together to reflect on how we think about and engage with the places we call home. Dr. Mercy Romero, a Distinguished Visiting Scholar at Rutgers-Camden, will share her expertise, focusing on how our homes are not just physical spaces but places filled with history, present-day stories, and environmental challenges. Participants will learn techniques to tell stories that reflect everyday experiences, challenging traditional narratives and highlighting resilience.
The workshop also includes Spanish-language support through the “Voces de la comunidad” project, encouraging Camden’s Spanish-speaking community to participate and share their own stories.
