Get ready for “Garbage Patch: A Show of Art Giving Life to Old Materials,” an exciting event that brings together artists who turn reclaimed and reused materials into amazing artwork. Hosted by STITCH AND DESTROY with help from The Craft Coven, this show will spotlight creative pieces focused on sustainability, waste reduction, and eco-friendly ideas.
Event Details
“Garbage Patch” is calling on artists to submit their work that fits the theme of “Reduce – Reuse – Recycle.” The show will feature a variety of artwork, ranging from small to large pieces, all of which will be wall-hanging art. Artists can submit more than one piece, and there’s space for artworks over three feet wide. The selection of pieces will be carefully chosen by STITCH AND DESTROY and The Craft Coven to make sure they truly represent the theme.
To apply, simply fill out the form available here. The deadline for applications is September 19th, and accepted artists will be notified by September 26th.
Event Location
The event will be held at STITCH AND DESTROY’s retail and studio space, located at 523 South 4th Street, Philadelphia, PA 19147, just off South Street. This spot is well-known for its lively arts scene and is the perfect place to host a show that combines creativity with sustainability.
Event Price and Conditions
It’s free to apply for the show, but if your work is accepted, there’s a $20 fee to cover the costs of the opening night. This fee is waived for Craft Coven members. Artists will set their prices for their work, and those prices will be doubled for sale, with profits split 50/50 between the artist and the organizers. If you prefer, your pieces can also be marked as Not For Sale (NFS).
Event Time
The “Garbage Patch” exhibition starts with an opening night on Thursday, October 24th, from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM EDT. The event will last three hours, giving everyone plenty of time to check out the artwork, enjoy free snacks and drinks, and join in on some fun activities like a button-making station. The show will run from the end of October through early January, giving artists many chances to get noticed and sell their work.
