BOCCE LEAGUES

In last Thursday’s women’s games, City Pizza defeated Mazza Bros., 12-6; Southern Auto beat PFC, 12-6, and City Pizza, 12-7; and Mazza took the win over PFC, 12-9. The women’s games will resume Jan. 8. In Tuesday’s men’s games, Camilli Chiropractor defeated Cacia’s Bakery, 12-2, and Rudi’s Formal Wear, 12-7; Pine Nuts beat Chef’s Market, 12-4; Rudi’s took the win over Pine Nuts, 12-10; and Casa dei Pazzi defeated Chef’s Market, 12-1. The men’s games will resume Jan. 6. The men’s league plays Tuesdays and the women’s league plays Thursdays starting at 7:30 p.m. at Guerin Recreation Center, 16th and Jackson streets.

CAPITOLO PLAYGROUND

The Capitolo men’s softball league is accepting new teams for the 2004 season. Managers must call Louise, 215-685-1883, as soon as possible, as only a few openings remain. Managers of women’s modified teams also are invited to inquire. In addition, the playground is holding registration for its 12-and-under basketball league. Call Greg, 215-685-1883.

FREE-THROW CHAMPIONSHIP

The Knights of Columbus Philadelphia Council No. 196 will sponsor the annual youth free-throw championships for boys and girls ages 10-14. The event will take place Jan. 10 at Guerin Recreation Center, 16th and Jackson streets, from noon-2:30 p.m. Call Quinto Andreoli, 215-389-8144.

GUERIN ACTIVITIES

Registration is being held for boys’ and girls’ indoor soccer for ages 12 and under at Guerin Recreation Center, 16th and Jackson streets. Parents can register their children Monday-Friday, 3-8 p.m., or call 215-685-1894 to make an appointment. The $15 fee, which includes shirt and award, is due at signup. Registration also continues for boys’ basketball for ages 14 and under and 12 and under. The same fee applies.

HAWTHORNE BASKETBALL

The Hawthorne Cultural Center, 1200 Carpenter St., is seeking players and coaches for the Department of Recreation’s 16-and-under basketball league. Games are played Tuesday and Thursday evenings at Murphy Recreation Center, Fourth and Shunk streets, and at Guerin Recreation Center, 16th and Jackson streets. Call 215-685-1848.

MYERS UPDATE

The Columbus Riverdragons of the National Basketball Development League acquired guard Jeff Myers, of 15th and Catharine streets, on Sunday. The 6-foot -2, 196-pound South Philadelphia High grad previously helped the Greenville Groove win the 2002 NBDL Championship by averaging 10 points, 4.4 rebounds, 2.1 steals and 3.8 assists and earning the league’s Defensive Player of the Year award. He has averaged 9.4 points, 3.9 rebounds and 3.1 assists in 69 career NBDL games. Myers also spent part of the NBA preseason on the Philadelphia 76ers’ training camp roster. Myers is expected to be in uniform Monday night, when the 2-7 Riverdragons host Fayetteville in Columbus.

POINT BREEZE BASKETBALL

The Point Breeze Civic Association is registering boys and girls for its winter basketball league. Signups for boys ages 9-12 are held Wednesdays; boys 14-16, Thursdays. A girls’ basketball league is forming for ages 11-14. The PBCA seeks teams to participate. Registration is at Vare Middle School, 24th Street and Snyder Avenue, from 6:30-9 p.m. Call 215-755-6628.

SABRES BASEBALL

Registration will begin Jan. 12 and continue every Monday and Wednesday from 6:30-8 p.m. and Saturday from 10 a.m.-1 p.m. through April at Sixth Street and Packer Avenue. SEYAA BASEBALL/TEE-BALL

Baseball and tee-ball registration is underway. The season will begin April 24. The age divisions are 4-6 (tee-ball), 7-8 (pitching machine), 8-10 and 10-12 (live pitch), and 13-15 and 16-19 (Babe Ruth). The cost is $60 for tee-ball and $70 for all other divisions.
