SPORTS DEADLINE

The deadline for sports notices is Monday at noon. Due to space restrictions, all briefs must be limited to 30-50 words. Submissions should be typed or neatly printed, with both a contact number for verification and one for publication. Names should be properly spelled and include both first and last names. Phoned-in items will be rejected. The same brief will not be run for more than three consecutive weeks.


BOCCE LEAGUES

In last Thursday’s women’s games of the South Philadelphia Bocce League, Mazza Bros. defeated City Pizza, 12-9, and PFC, 12-9; Southern Auto beat PFC, 12-6; and City took the win over Southern, 12-7. Playoffs start tonight. In Tuesday’s men’s quarterfinals, Rudi’s Formal Wear defeated Casa dei Pazzi, 12-10 and 12-9, and Camilli Chiropractic beat Chef’s Market, 12-5 and 12-6. On Tuesday, Rudi’s will play Cacia’s Bakery and Camilli will challenge Pine Nuts. Games start 7:30 p.m. at Guerin Recreation Center, 16th and Jackson streets.


CAPITOLO WOMEN’S SOFTBALL

The playground, Ninth and Federal streets, is still seeking teams and players interested in playing modified women’s softball. Call 215-685-1883.


DVYAA BASEBALL

The association is accepting registration for its spring baseball programs weeknights, 6-8, and Saturdays, 11 a.m.-1 p.m., at Barry Playground, 18th and Johnston streets. Age groups are 5-7 (tee-ball), 8-9 (peewee), 10-12 (majors) and 13-15 (seniors). Call 215-468-1265.


EOM TEE-BALL

FLAMES ROLLER HOCKEY

Murphy Recreation Center, Third and Shunk streets, is hosting an instructional girls’ basketball camp from June 21-25. SEYAA BASEBALL/TEE-BALL

Baseball and tee-ball registration is underway. The season will begin Saturday. The age divisions are 4-6 (tee-ball), 7-8 (pitching machine), 8-10 and 10-12 (live pitch), and 13-15 and 16-19 (Babe Ruth). The cost is $60 for tee-ball and $70 for all other divisions. SPECIAL OLYMPICS

Special Olympics Philadelphia is in serious need of volunteer coaches for basketball, tennis, swimming, softball, golf and other sports. No formal coaching experience is necessary. All that is needed is knowledge of the sport and the desire to train adults and/or children with mental retardation. Athletes will train a minimum of eight weeks prior to competitions.
