Football in a Flash

A neighborhood rivalry will be renewed at 10:30 a.m. Saturday as the Southern Rams and Bok Wildcats kick off at 11th and Bigler streets.

Defending division champ Bok won last year’s meeting 22-0. The Wildcats enter the game with a 1-1 record, which includes last Saturday’s 6-0 win over University City. Senior quarterback Joe "Pepe" DeSalis scored the lone touchdown, while senior Amir Nuriddin racked up 94 rushing yards.

The Rams will look to recover from last week’s 16-12 loss to Bartram, which dropped the local squad to 1-1 overall. The trio of senior quarterback Jalil Harris, junior tailback Lamone Fox and senior receiver Mike McClain will be key to Southern’s offensive success.

In Catholic League action, the Neumann-Goretti Saints enter the weekend still searching for the first win of their new era. The squad will play at Conwell-Egan at 7 p.m. Saturday. After scoring a total of 19 points in their first three games, the Saints must get their offense into gear. The defense also faces a challenge in containing Steve Slaton, who is considered one of the city’s best running backs. The senior has racked up close to 300 yards in three games for the 2-1 squad.
