SPORTS DEADLINE
The deadline for sports notices is Monday at noon. Due to space restrictions, all briefs must be limited to 30-50 words. Submissions should be typed or neatly printed, with both a contact number for verification and one for publication. Names should be properly spelled and include both first and last names. Phoned-in items will be rejected. The same brief will not be run for more than three consecutive weeks.

EDWARDS NAMED ALL-STATE
The Associated Press has named Edward Bok Tech senior defensive back Nafis Edwards to the Class AAA Second Team All-State team.

GUERIN SOCCER
Open registration for the 13-and-under coed indoor soccer program is ongoing at Guerin Recreation Center, 16th and Jackson streets. The fee is $15 before Dec. 31 and $20 thereafter. Fee includes a T-shirt, award and end-of-season pizza party. Call 215-685-1894.

MCCARTER UPDATE
Bok alum Rodney McCarter became a national champion as his James Madison Dukes defeated Montana 31-21 in Friday night’s NCAA Division I-AA football title game. The senior safety, of 18th and McClellan streets, led the James Madison defense with six solo tackles. The Second Team All-Atlantic 10 selection finished the season with 102 tackles, including 53 solo and one sack, and two interceptions.

MURPHY BASKETBALL
Murphy Recreation Center, Third and Shunk streets, will begin its annual biddy basketball league for boys and girls age 10 and under next month. The cost is $25 for the season and includes a jersey. Call 215-685-1874.

SAINTS IN FLORIDA
The Neumann-Goretti Saints girls’ basketball team finished third at the Rock Holiday Classic in Florida by defeating Cypress Bay (Fla.) in Tuesday night’s consolation game. Standout sophomore Gloria Brown tallied 20 points and 22 rebounds in the win while senior teammate Shonte Skinner finished with a game-high 24 points. Brown was named to the all-tournament team for her 69 points and 89 rebounds. The Saints suffered their first loss of the season in Monday’s semifinal, losing 56-45 to Mercer County (Ky.). Sophomore Jasmine Daniels and Skinner tallied 13 points apiece. The athletes advanced to the semifinals by beating American Heritage (Fla.) 63-42 in Sunday’s quarterfinals. Brown led the Neumann-Goretti offense with 18 points.

SEYAA SPORTS

Basketball age divisions are 4-6 (coed biddy basketball), 7-8 boys, 7-9 girls, 9-11 boys, 10-12 girls and 12-14 boys. The $40 fee includes T-shirt and trophy. Games will be played at Thomas Middle School, Ninth and Johnston streets, beginning Jan. 3.

Indoor soccer for ages 4-6 will start Jan. 8 at Thomas with Saturday morning games. The $30 fee includes T-shirt and trophy. Registration is held Monday and Thursday evenings, 6-8, and Saturdays, 11 a.m.-2 p.m., at the sports complex, Seventh and Bigler streets. Call 215-463-8802 or visit www.seyaa.com.

TEN STAR BASKETBALL
Applications are being evaluated for the Ten Star All-Star Summer Basketball Camp. The national camp, which has a local site in Doylestown, is by invitation only. Boys and girls 10-19 are eligible to apply. Past participants have included Michael Jordan and Tim Duncan. College basketball scholarships are possible for players selected to the All-American team.
