Slashed with box cutter

A 37-year-old needed nearly a dozen staples and stitches to close head wounds after a man allegedly sliced him with a box cutter Sunday.

Victor Williams, 35, from the 1500 block of South 20th Street, was arrested and charged with aggravated assault, simple assault, recklessly endangering another person and possession of an instrument of crime, said Detective Joe Chiaro of South Detective Division.

The victim and his girlfriend were on the 1400 block of South 20th Street when the suspect approached and the two men started feuding, Chiaro said. Williams allegedly pulled a box cutter and slashed the victim on the front and back of his head.

The detective said he did not know the source of the argument, which happened shortly before 10 p.m., because it is still under investigation,

The victim was taken to Graduate Hospital, where he was treated and released.


Man wounded in knee

A man was taken to the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania in stable condition after being shot in his left knee.

According to police, five to six gunshots were heard at about 1 a.m. Sunday on the 1400 block of South 31st Street, then the 23-year-old victim realized he was hit.

Investigators have no motive or suspects.

Grazed and shot

Two men on bikes rode up to a man on the 2000 block of Bonsall Street and opened fire. The 35-year-old victim suffered two graze wounds to the chest and a gunshot wound to each leg, said Detective Joe Chiaro of South Detectives.

The pair rode up to the man at about 2:15 p.m. Sunday. One of the men produced a handgun and gunned down the man as he stood on the block, the detective said.

The man was taken to the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania.

Investigators recovered seven shell casings at the scene.

Charged with attempted murder

A man allegedly struck the mother of his child in the head with a household appliance. Police arrested the man after Saturday’s 3:15 a.m. confrontation on the 500 block of Ritner Street.

The 30-year-old suspect was visiting from Maine when he got into an argument with the mother of his child and hit the woman with an iron, said Detective Joe Chiaro of South Detectives.

The woman needed 20 stitches at Thomas Jefferson University Hospital.

Khawaii Sok from Lowell, Maine, was charged with attempted murder and related offenses.


Robbed outside diner

Exiting Melrose Diner Sunday afternoon, an elderly man was robbed by a woman age 20 to 30 years who demanded money, but did not wield a weapon. The woman walked up to the 73-year-old at about 3:15 p.m. as he left the diner at 1501 Snyder Ave., said Detective Joe Chiaro of South Detectives.

After the man told her he didn’t have any cash, she helped herself to $180 out of his pocket, Chiaro said.

When the man tried to put a fight, he fell and scraped his arm.

The bandit fled and the man did not require hospital treatment.
