Tournament update

The Neumann-Goretti girls’ basketball team won the consolation-bracket championship of the 2006 Crescent Bank Holiday Invitational with a 39-23 victory over South Carolina’s Lee Central. The game was held Dec. 23 at the Myrtle Beach Convention Center.

Senior Gloria Brown, who was named the tournament’s most outstanding player, led the Saints with 19 points and 16 rebounds, while Alison Nelson added nine points. In four games, Brown averaged 22.3 points and 16.8 rebounds. She also set tournament records for most rebounds (67) and blocked shots (19).

Neumann-Goretti returned home with a 7-3 record. Its only tournament loss came against Georgia’s Stephenson High School.

Tomorrow, Dec. 29, the squad will be in South Jersey for the Haddonfield Holiday Tournament and will play Wither Haddonfield or Camden.

The Saints open their Catholic League schedule Jan. 3 with a home game against defending champ Cardinal O’Hara.
