Prep Charter’s road to the state finals required beating a familiar opponent, not once, not twice, but three times.

The most recent victory over Imhotep Charter came in the March 21 Pennsylvania Interscholastic Athletic Association AA state semifinal contest at Ben Franklin.

After winning the first two meetings by two and four points, respectively, the defending state champs picked up a more decisive 61-48 victory this time around. Prep Charter led by as many as 12 points in the second quarter and didn’t allow Imhotep to get any closer than eight points the rest of the way.

"It’s my last year, and I play every game like it is my last," senior Marcus Morris, who finished with 15 points and six rebounds, said.

Twin brother Markieff led Prep Charter with 21 points and eight rebounds.

The win set up a rematch against Western Pennsylvania’s Aliquippa (30-2), who defeated the Huskies, 78-70, in a Jan. 20 contest. It was one of only four losses for the South Philly squad.

"I want to play Aliquippa because they beat us during the season, but we didn’t have one of our players," Marcus Morris said.

Fittingly, the Huskies avenged the loss in grand fashion, with a thrilling come-from-behind 68-66 victory in the March 24 state championship game.
