Have you noticed the new visitors’ bleachers and goal posts at 12th and Bigler streets? They’re just a small part of the new sports complex that will arrive in 2008.

According to Anton Hackett, director of external and community affairs with the School District of Philadelphia, the job is on schedule with completion expected in May.

This week, synthetic turf is slated to be added to the football field. Hackett said the surrounding track will be ready for paving in a month. The soccer and baseball fields are being graded.

When completed, the project will be the fourth super site renovated by the district with the others at Northeast, Germantown and Simon Gratz high schools. When done, the South Philly complex will include a synthetic football field with a rubber track as well as two full-sized baseball fields that will overlap two practice football fields.
