Cut by a mugger

By putting up a fight, a man was able to keep his valuables from an armed robber but paid with a slice to the neck.

The offender walked up to the 20-year-old at about 6:30 p.m. Dec. 19 on the 2000 block of Snyder Avenue and produced a knife, demanding the man turn over his wallet and cell phone, Detective Joe Chiaro of South Detective Division said. When the victim refused, a scuffle ensued where the offender cut the left side of the man’s neck. The perpetrator, described as a 6-foot black male in his 20s with facial hair, a heavy build and wearing all black clothing, took off on foot in an unknown direction.

The wounded man went to Methodist Hospital then Thomas Jefferson University Hospital, where he was treated and released.

Teens charged with robbery

A man flagged down police moments after he had been mugged and cops arrested the two teens believed to be responsible.

The duo cornered the 37-year-old at about 6 p.m. last Thursday on the 2400 block of South Sixth Street, Detective Joe Chiaro of South Detectives said. When one allegedly produced a gun and demanded money, the victim responded by running away.

After stopping a police cruiser in the area, officers rounded up the two alleged robbers a couple of blocks away. Nothing was taken from the victim and the 15- and 17-year-old from the 500 block of Winton Street were both charged with attempted robbery, recklessly endangering another person and possession of an instrument of crime.


Register cleaned out

Police arrested a man after he allegedly heldup Game Stop, 2437 S. 24th St., Dec. 18.

Tyrell Jarrett, 23, from the 1900 block of South 21st Street, was charged with robbery, receiving stolen property, simple assault, possession of an instrument of crime and firearms violations.

Jarrett walked into the store at about 12:45 p.m. and, at gunpoint, ordered a 21-year-old employee to clean out the register, Detective Joe Chiaro of South Detectives said. With $900 in hand, the perpetrator fled on foot in an unknown direction only to be nabbed about three blocks away, police said.


Bag returned

Last Friday at about 1:15 a.m. on the 1100 block of South Ninth Street, a robber told a 21-year-old woman to surrender her purse or he would shoot, police said.

Valuing her life, the victim turned over the item and watched the assailant take off on foot, going south on Ninth from Washington Avenue, Detective Joe Chiaro of South Detectives said. The woman stopped police in the area who rounded up the suspect a couple of blocks away.

Amilcar Villalobos, 24, from the 2700 block of South Marshall Street, was charged with robbery, theft and receiving stolen property. The handbag was returned to its rightful owner.


Purse-snatching

Two teens converged on a woman as she was walking on the 800 block of Mountain Street and snatched her handbag containing $180, a cell phone and keys. The 25-year-old was robbed at gunpoint at 10:12 p.m. last Thursday.

Running west on Mountain toward Ninth Street, the pair were described as black; age 17 to 19; about 5-foot-9 with thin builds; the gunman had on a black hoody and dark jeans, while the other wore a gray hoody and dark pants.
