A quarter of a woman’s money market account was stolen at gunpoint after she closed the account last weekend.

A 43-year-old woman closed out her $8,000 Citizens Bank account Sunday and at 4 p.m. the next day, she and her sister-in-law parked across the street from KFC, 2422 W. Passyunk Ave., Detective Danielle Tolliver of South Detective Division said.

As the woman waited in her relative’s car, a man was walking east on Passyunk, Tolliver said. It seemed like the man was going to pass, but instead he opened the driver’s side door and pointed a gun at the 43-year-old, who immediately jumped out of the car. The man opened the glove compartment and took $2,000 of the $6,000 that was in there before fleeing west on Passyunk.

The man was described as black with a dark complexion, 6 foot, 200 pounds and was wearing dark clothing and a ski mask.
