A man assaulted his ex-girlfriend and her teenage son in their Point Breeze home after an argument with the ex, who he was staying with for the weekend.

The 37-year-old woman and her ex — Charles Purvis, 28, of the 5700 block of Winsor Avenue in Southwest Philly — were arguing in her bedroom of her home on the 2300 block of South Hemberger Street at 11:35 p.m. Sunday when he allegedly punched her in the chest multiple times, Detective Danielle Tolliver of South Detective Division said. The woman ran downstairs to the kitchen to retrieve a knife for protection. Purvis is believed to have chased her until her 15-year-old son stepped in. Purvis allegedly struck the teen with his fists multiple times to his face and body and charged toward the woman, who stabbed him in the upper back as he ran toward her.

She then ran outside to meet police, but he allegedly ran after her and punched her in the face in front of the officers, Tolliver said. The officers were unable to control the man, so an officer subdued him with a Taser. Purvis was transported to the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania. The woman was unharmed.

Purvis was charged with simple assault and recklessly endangering another person.
