A man was apprehended for a May Grays Ferry bar shooting more than two months after his target identified him from a photo array as a man he only knew as “Butter.”

Major Crimes Gun Violence Task Force arrested Eric Burley, 28, of the 1800 block of South Corlies Street, inside a home on the 1300 block of Church Street in the Northeast July 14, Detective Danielle Tolliver of South Detective Division said. A Sears & Roebuck 12-gauge shotgun was recovered under the couch where he was sitting upon police entering the residence.

Burley was charged with attempted murder, aggravated assault, simple assault, recklessly endangering another person, possession of an instrument of crime, terroristic threats and firearm violations.

Burley pled guilty to a 2004 aggravated assault and was also found guilty of a ’07 aggravated assault, according to court records.

On May 1 Burley allegedly entered Big Fella’s Sports Bar, 1348 S. 33rd St., called a 32-year-old man’s name and shot him in the stomach and right hip before fleeing the bar, Tolliver said.

The victim was transported by medic to the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania in serious condition and was not interviewed until three days later when he identified Burley.
