An off-duty cop whose vehicle was broken into Saturday night caught one of the two offenders himself.

The 39-year-old officer was not on duty when he saw two men inside his car on the 3400 block of Capri Court near Penrose Avenue, Detective Danielle Tolliver of South Detective Division said. When he identified himself as a police officer, the pair fled east toward 20th Street, but the officer nabbed one of the offenders — a 17-year-old of the 700 block of McClellan Street — after a brief struggle and then called 911.

The offenders allegedly stole the man’s police badge, police identification, credit cards, $80 and a headset for a DVD player, Tolliver said.

The teen was charged with theft, criminal conspiracy and resisting arrest.
