Road rage attack

An eight-and-a-half-month pregnant woman gave birth hours after being assaulted in a Point Breeze road rage incident, although her doctors did not attribute her giving birth to the attack.

The 35-year-old expecting mother was in her vehicle with her right turn signal on at a red light on the 1100 block of South 20th Street, Detective Danielle Tolliver said. Since there was a “No Turn On Red” sign, she waited before turning on to Washington Avenue.

However, behind her in a 1999 blue Chevy Suburban, Keith Duncan, 46, and Saundra Harper, 44, both of the 900 block of South 23rd Street, allegedly beeped the car horn and yelled profanities at her, Tolliver said. When she finally turned, the Suburban is believed to have followed with its occupant throwing things at her auto. Scared the SUV was trailing her, she turned the wrong way down 18th Street, but a car was coming up the block in the other direction,

Duncan allegedly got out of his car and punched the woman’s driver’s side window causing it to shatter, Tolliver said. Duncan reportedly punched her in the side of the head while she was in the vehicle and again after she stepped out of the car. When she tried to write down the Suburban’s license plate number, Harper allegedly also punched her in the head.

When a bystander, who had the car’s tag number, called police the duo reentered the Suburban and sped off north on 18th Street, Tolliver said.

The police traced the car to Duncan, and caught him and Harper prior to entering their South of South home. They were identified as the alleged offenders, arrested and charged with aggravated assult, criminal mischief and related offenses.

The woman received small cuts to her face, neck and hands, a bruise on her left tricep and bumps on her head, Tolliver said. Two hours after the incident her husband transported her to a Langhorne hospital after her water broke, but doctors said the onset of the pregnancy was not likely a result of the earlier assault.
