A Center City man allegedly scammed six into paying him rent for a West Passyunk room.

""Samuel Ferraro, 19, allegedly posted an ad on craigslist April 24 about a room for rent in a property on the 2000 block of South 20th Street, Detective Danielle Tolliver of South Detective Division said. Three individuals — a 27- and a 30-year-old man, as well as a 42-year-old woman — who do not know one another, visited the property at separate times, filled out a rental agreement and paid $600 to Ferrraro, who is believed to have told them they may move in May 4.

Ferraro allegedly moved out at the end of April, but did not have permission from the owner to rent out his former room, Tolliver said. The phone number he gave his schemed tenants was disconnected.

Detectives were informed that Ferraro also served as a taxi driver using his 1992 black BMW, so they found his contact number on an online notice, Tolliver said. They called Friday and requested to be picked up at 23rd Street and Passyunk Avenue — about two blocks from their headquarters at 2301 S. 24th St. — and taken to Citizens Bank Park, 1 Citizens Bank Way. Ferraro allegedly arrived at 8 p.m. and was arrested without an incident.

He was charged with six counts each — as three other victims came forward — of theft by unlawful taking, theft by deception, receiving stolen property, theft of leased property, deceptive business practices and securing execution documents by deceit.
