A Newbold and Marconi man, who are believed to be responsible for assaulting two men — leaving one unconscious — in Old City, were apprehended last week.

A 25- and a 27-year-old man had left Mad River Bar & Grille, 126 Chestnut St., at about 2 a.m. April 30 and headed to E-Z Park, 36 S. Front St., when a group of four allegedly began attacking the pair.

Two of the men were supossedly punching and kicking the younger man, but when the older jumped in and threw a punch, they all began attacking him instead, according to video surveillance the Philadelphia Police Department released.

Michael Russo, 21, of the 2100 block of South Carlisle Street, allegedly punched the elder man until he was unconscious, according to police. The assault resulted in the 27-year-old suffering from a broken jaw and left orbital bone. He also required six stitches to his forehead.

Russo was charged with three counts of aggravated assault, conspiracy of aggravated assault, possession of an instrument of crime, simple assault and recklessly endangering another person.

Edward Costello, 19, of the 2700 block of South Smedley Street, who also was arrested for his involvement, was charged with three counts of simple assault, conspiracy of simple assault and recklessly endangering another person, as well as one count of aggravated assault.

Both men were arrested May 10 after they turned themselves into police, but police are still seeking the two other suspects shown in the video.
