Continued disapproval

Pennsport and Whitman residents will protest the closing of two neighborhood Catholic schools tonight.

The rally will kick off at 6:30 p.m. at Third and McKean streets. Organizers are encouraging protestors to bring banners, signs or pictures and for their children to dress in school uniforms.

Those against the merger question the revised school closings, as they fear the closure of the last two South Philly parochial schools east of Sixth Street will lead to the shattering of the churches, as well as the communities.

Parents, church members and community members will be asking the Archdiocese of Philadelphia to reconsider the revised decision as neither Mount Carmel nor Sacred Heart of Jesus provided the financial and enrollment data used in Epiphany of Our Lord’s or St. Richard’s appeal.
