South of South native Michael Woodard was named winner of music reality series "Majors and Minors" during the show’s Jan. 29 finale.

Woodard, 14, was among 12 youths ages 10 to 16 who were mentored by music industry leaders such as Sean Kingston and Brandy for the show’s first season filmed in L.A.. As winner, Woodard claimed a recording deal with Boardwalk Records and RCA Records. Now residing in East Falls, Woodard, who hails from 19th and Montrose streets, is an eighth-grader at William Meredith School, 725 S. Fifth St. and sings in the church choir at Greater Saint Matthew Baptist Church, 2123 Fitzwater St.
