A cabbie was setup and then dragged into a Point Breeze home and robbed Saturday.

Two women hailed a cab at 3:30 a.m. at Ninth Street and Washington Avenue asking to be transported to 21st and Latona streets, Detective Danielle Tolliver of South Detective Division said.

Upon pulling onto the 2100 block of Latona, one of the females said, “I have to go inside the house and get some money from my mom,” as both exited the taxi and went inside, Tolliver said. The pair came out a few minutes later and one woman said, “Our mom doesn’t believe we were picked up in a taxi cab. Could you come inside and tell her?” However, the 41-year-old cabbie instructed them to have her come outside.

Instead, a man ran outside, opened the driver’s side door and dragged the cab’s occupant from the car and into the house, Tolliver said. The man, along with the two female passengers and another man, started to punch and kick him. One smacked him with a large unknown object on the back of his head and one of the women said, “Get his money and find his keys.” The offenders stole $75 before fleeing the home in an unknown direction.

The cab driver stumbled out of the dwelling, drove his taxi to 21st Street and contacted his dispatcher, Tolliver said.

Police officers transported the victim to the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania for treatment of a deep cut to the back of his head and several other lacerations, Tolliver said.

One of the women was described as black or Latino with a light complexion, age 20 to 22, skinny and having long hair while the other was described as black with a light complexion, heavy set and having short hair. The man that dragged the cabbie was described as black, age 18 to 25 and 5-foot-2. A description of the fourth offender was not available at press time.
