Responding to a 9:27 a.m. call Feb. 25, police arrived at Epiphany of Our Lord Church, 1101 Jackson St., meeting a maintenance person acting in place of the complainant, Detective Danielle Tolliver of South Detective Division said. The worker told authorities he had discovered the hands and a piece of the veil from a Lady of Fatima statue broken off, presuming that an unknown heavy object, likely a hammer, did the damage.

The employee found the hands and fragments scattered roughly two or three feet from the art work, Tolliver said, with the vandal’s handiwork resulting in as much as $3,000 in damages.
