An upset man attacked another male whom he suspected of moving in on his mate in Whitman.

Police ventured to Nickel’s Tavern, 2655 S. Second St., at 4:46 p.m. Sunday, where they learned from the complainant that he had having a conversation with a woman when her beau expressed anger over their interaction, Detective Danielle Tolliver of South Detective Division said. After the man pushed the patron, the two became involved in a fight, with the aggressor swinging a broken beer bottle at his prey.

The glass wielder fled the tavern but returned within two minutes, Tolliver said, with a large steel link chain, which he swung three times, striking the complainant, who received a transport to Methodist Hospital, in the head, hand and hip. He fled the scene and headed on Oregon Avenue toward Front Street. The victim described the offender as white, in his early 50s, 5-foot-10 and 180 pounds; having a mustache, salt and pepper hair; and wearing a white tank top and blue shorts.
