A Point Breeze man is in custody after reportedly returning to a pastry shop he had allegedly robbed.

At 6:45 a.m. Nov. 22, an employee at Dunkin’ Donuts, 1551 Washington Ave., was working behind the counter when an unknown male asked if he could speak with him. Just after starting the conversation, the figure supposedly lifted his shirt, revealing a handgun in his waistband. The worker gave him an undisclosed amount of money before the purported offender fled in an unknown direction.

Recalling surveillance video of the matter, another employee claimed the same individual entered the establishment at 1:20 p.m. Saturday. A phone call to police led to the arrest of Francis Mears, 53, that day. Authorities charged the resident of the 1700 block of Alter Street with robbery, possession of an instrument of crime, assault and making terroristic threats. He had not posted his $125,000 bail as of press time and awaits a Dec. 16 preliminary hearing.
