On Sept. 1, law enforcement personnel executed a search warrant on the 2000 block of South Hemberger Street and detained Khalil Daniels after the 19-year-old reportedly ran down the stairs from the second floor to escape through the back door, Detective Danielle Tolliver of South Detective Division said.

Officers arrested the West Passyunk resident for his supposed involvement in an Aug. 24 robbery. On that date, police met with a South Side Pizza delivery driver at 27th Street and Snyder Avenue, learning that an unknown black male approached him as he tried to complete an order on the 2700 block of Tree Terrace. He turned around to find approximately eight more individuals, with one producing a firearm and barking “Don’t move.”

He ran from the scene, but the reported gun wielder chased him to 27th Street and Snyder Avenue, where the complainant observed another male operating his 2000 Toyota Camry toward 28th Street. Along with his transportation, the uninjured victim parted with his iPhone 6, various identification and credit cards, approximately $200, and the food order valued at $28.

Through their investigation, police ascertained the identity of the supposed gun carrier and made the aforementioned arrest, charging Daniels with criminal conspiracy, possession of an instrument of crime, simple assault, recklessly endangering another person, making terroristic threats, robbery, firearms violations, theft by unlawful taking and receiving stolen property, and carjacking. He had not posted his $100,000 bail as of press time and awaits a Sept. 20 preliminary hearing.

Three days prior to the arrest, the robbery of a Three Countries Pizza driver also occurred on the same block, with the complainant describing the three offenders as being black teenagers. Authorities will look to see if Daniels might have had an involvement in that matter.
