They Came, They Stayed – At 7 p.m. at the Historic Gloria Dei (Old Swedes’) Church, 916 S. Swanson St., Susan McAninley, a South Philadelphia story collector, will tell stories of immigrants to arrive at Pier 53 as told by their descendants. Workshop at No. 5 Butchie Alley – Mary Gamble Barrett will offer an egg tempera media intensive, exploring 14th century Byzantine techniques at No. 5 Butchie Alley, 1175 S. 13th St. from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Limited to 10 participants. Indigenous Peoples Weekend – Celebrate Native American history and culture during the Museum of the American Revolution’s annual “Indigenous Peoples Weekend” celebration. The weekend will include traditional Native American dance performances and storytelling, hands-on demonstrations and other special activities for all ages. Tickets to the Museum can be purchased by calling 215-253-6731, at AmRevMuseum.org or at the front desk. Save $3 per adult ticket by purchasing online. All tickets are valid for two consecutive days.

October 8

Old City Fest – This super-sized festival draws tens of thousands of people and takes over N. 3rd Street (from Market to Race) and Arch Street (from 2nd to 4th). Activities will include the Family Fun Zone, live music, artists, pop-up street performances and an array of food, beverages, craft and retail shopping, with 100-plus vendors participating. Admission is free, with food and drink pay-as-you-go.

October 8

Darren Daulton Foundation Celebrity Bartending event – From 1-4 p.m. at Live! Casino and Hotel Philadelphia. Guests will meet Darren Daulton Foundation Ambassadors, Phillies Alumni and other special guests at Sports & Social, Live! Casino’s sports bar and restaurant. The VIPs will pour drinks and swap stories to help honor Daulton’s memory and raise money for The Darren Daulton Foundation. Guests can choose from two ticket options, VIP and GA. The VIP ticket is $100 and includes early admission at 12:30 p.m. with exclusive access to the celebrities, a half-hour open bar, drink specials and hors d’oeuvres. Garden Party Happy Hour – From 5-8 p.m. at Magic Gardens, 1020 South St., enjoy a happy hour and crafting event in the colorful mosaicked wonderland. All drinks are included with admission, so guests can enjoy a cold beer, wine from Chaddsford Winery and beverages by Hochstadter’s Slow & Low Whiskey. Popcorn and pretzels along with treats from Ramona Susan’s Bakeshop will also be offered. After attendees are done making art they can try out the “tile bingo” game and listen to a DJ from BridgeSet Sound on hand to spin vinyl tunes.

Tickets are $25/adults and $16/PMG members, and attendees must be 21 years of age or older. Proceeds from these events help support education and outreach programs. Space is very limited, so guests are encouraged to register as soon as possible via http://phillymagicgardens.org/.

Sinatra Social Society of Philadelphia Fall Luncheon – From 1-4 p.m. at Maggiano’s Little Italy in the Cherry Hill Mall. The luncheon will consist of three courses including coffee, tea and soft drinks with a cash bar. Sinatra music presented by Lou Dottoli. Everyone will receive a 4″x 6″ framed picture of Francis Albert along with Sinatra items to be sold and raffled. Tickets are $64. Feastival – The 13th annual event will bring more than 30 participating restaurants, live interactive performance artists and artist involvement in beautifying the FringeArts campus. Twilight in the Gardens – from 7-10 p.m. at Magic Gardens, 1020 South St. A live musical performance by Black Butterfly and guided art workshop by Emily Smith. Every month features a different genre of music and new teaching artist who helps guests create a work of art to take home.

Turkey Tailgate – From noon to 4 p.m. before the Eagles take on the Cowboys. Guests have the chance to experience a tailgate while supporting Dimplez 4 Dayz, a youth-led nonprofit organization dedicated to empowering the youth voice and reducing youth violence in Philadelphia. Hosted by Philly PR Girl, guests will get an early taste of the holidays with Primo Hoagies’ signature “Primo Pilgrim” sandwich and Thanksgiving sides including stuffing, sweet potatoes and mac and cheese. SPHS Award of Excellence – From noon to 3 p.m. as the Waterfall Room at 2015 S. Swanson St., the South Philadelphia High School Alumni Association will recognize the 2023 Award of Excellence recipients who have been active in the South Philly community. Honorees are educators John Koskinen and Rosemary Trombetta; community service member Russell Shoemaker; and executive board member Yvonne Haughton.

Big Jay Oakerson – At 8 p.m. at Live! Casino & Hotel Philadelphia, beloved comedian and Philadelphia native, Big Jay Oakerson, will perform at The Event Center at Live! Casino & Hotel Philadelphia.
