Steakhouse Meets Pasta – at 6 p.m. at Urban Farmer, 1850 Benjamin Franklin Parkway, a chef collaboration dinner. Known for his culinary takes, executive chef and butcher Sonny Ingui is teaming up with Pastaia Janine Bruno of Homemade by Bruno for an immersive seven-course dining experience featuring demonstrations by Ingui and Bruno, and an intersectional menu merging elevated steakhouse and Sicilian cuisines. The dinner comes paired with Sicilian wines, curated by Urban Farmer’s beverage manager Abigail Remington and lead bartender Christopher Moran. ‘New Divisions’ Mummers Documentary – At 3:30 pm, PhillyCAM will be hosting a screening of the new film “New Divisions.” This short documentary (22 minutes) explores the history of the Mummers Parade, shedding light on the parade’s record of what critics claim is “racist caricature” and following an attempt to diversify the parade during the 2015 and 2016 seasons. The screening will be preceded by a short reception featuring light refreshments and followed by a talkback featuring Sarah Milinski, filmmaker Lendl Tellington and Rhae Lynn Barnes, Ph.D., Princeton University. “Revolution, The Game” – at the Museum of the American Revolution, the day camp will be structured like a Live Action Roleplay Game, where kids can create their own character to play as and navigate the Revolutionary War as a Continental soldier, a British soldier – or even a spy. Using resources from the Museum, along with maps, replica objects, missions, puzzles and more, participants will explore how their choices could affect the outcome of the game – and history itself. French History Night – From 5:30-7:30 p.m. at the Museum of the American Revolution, this happy hour soirée will be hosted by the museum’s Associate Curator of Exhibition Content and Research, James Taub, who will connect French history to the American Revolution in a special interactive presentation at 6 p.m. in the museum’s Cross Keys Café. Listen and learn while enjoying a special “French 1775” cocktail at a cash bar and exclusive evening access to the museum’s newest special exhibit, Witness to Revolution: The Unlikely Travels of Washington’s Tent. TIMELESS: A Tribute to The Legacy of Peter Nero – At 3 p.m. at the Kimmel Center, a concert paying homage to the career and music of Peter Nero. The concert will be conducted by Carl Topilow with guest artist pianist George Burton, a Philadelphia native from Mt. Airy who graduated from CAPA and won a Peter Nero piano competition. They will join forces with The No Name Pops, the former musicians of The Philly Pops, to showcase Nero’s music. “Plants, Fabrics, and Dyes, Oh My!” – at the Museum of the American Revolution, the day camp will teach kids how early Americans used common plants to dye their garments vivid, beautiful colors. Kids will learn the science behind this process, record swatches, and learn how to extract pigment from plants like avocados, beets and cabbage before ultimately choosing their favorite swatch and dyeing their own T-shirt. Beerathon kicks off with a 5K run (or walk) where participants will earn a beer for each mile completed.
