One dead in hail of bullets

Homicide detectives are seeking the man who opened fire on three people on the 600 block of Mifflin Street Saturday night, killing one man and injuring two others.

The gunman pulled up to Woods Chinese Restaurant around 11:50 p.m. and shot Donald Adams, 27, of Overbrook, in the head and face, said Detective Jim Feldmere of South Detective Division.

Adams was pronounced dead around midnight at Thomas Jefferson University Hospital, said the detective.

The other victims were a 24-year-old man who suffered a gunshot wound to the wrist, and a 19-year-old female shot in the arms and legs, said Feldmere.

Both were taken to Jefferson, where they were in stable condition earlier in the week.

Freshman shot

A 13-year-old boy was shot in the face the night before he was to start classes at St. John Neumann High, authorities said. A 26-year-old male was shot in the leg during the same Monday-night incident.

Police responded to a report of a person with a gun on the 700 block of McClellan Street around 9:20 p.m., according to Detective Jim Feldmere of South Detectives.

Both victims told police a male in a black pickup truck shot them.

The teen, who lives on the 1800 block of South Eighth Street, was taken to Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia. The wounded man was taken to Thomas Jefferson University Hospital.

Both victims were in stable condition by Tuesday.

Labor Day shooting mystery

Around 3 p.m. Monday, police discovered a male lying on the 1600 block of Montrose Street with multiple gunshot wounds.

The 20-year-old victim, from the 3400 block of Haverford Avenue, was taken to Thomas Jefferson University Hospital, said Detective Jim Feldmere of South Detectives.

The man was in stable condition after surgery, Feldmere said.

Scalped of tickets

What should have been a happy moment for a Delaware boy who had just purchased sports tickets at the First Union Center ended on a sad note Saturday, said police.

A man in a black Dodge drove up to the 14-year-old as the boy waited for his ride home, said Detective Jim Feldmere of South Detectives. The culprit then got out of the car, pointed a black handgun at the youth and snatched his tickets before driving away.

Police said the tickets were valued at $154.

Robbed at knifepoint

A man approached a 26-year-old woman as she walked along the 2100 block of South Rosewood Street Monday and robbed her at knifepoint, police said.

The incident occurred while it was still light out at 6:20 p.m., said Detective Jim Feldmere of South Detectives.

The culprit made off with the victim’s bank card and $60, said police.

Some welcome

A Hagerstown, Md., man experienced anything but brotherly love as he braked at a stop sign Sunday night on the 2200 block of Reed Street, said police.

A man jumped into the passenger seat of the 31-year-old’s car around 11:30 p.m. and pointed a gun at his head, reports stated. The attacker ripped a gold chain from his victim’s neck.

Fund for abandoned baby

Commerce Bank has set up a fund to benefit Tamara Doe, the abandoned newborn girl whom landscapers found in a trash bag Aug. 26.

Commerce Bank will administer the fund, established at the branch where the baby was discovered at 2201 S. Broad St., said a company spokesperson.

To get things started, Commerce donated $1,000 to the fund. Contributions can be made at any of the bank’s 48 Pennsylvania locations. Donations also can be sent to the Tamara Doe Fund, Attention: Dawn Leo, Assistant Manager, Commerce Bank, 2201 S. Broad St., Philadelphia, Pa. 19148.

Police are still searching for the infant’s mother.
