AAU BASKETBALL TRYOUT

The Ballhawks Amateur Athletic Union basketball traveling team invites boys 13 and under to try out Saturday at 3 p.m. Proof of age is required. Call 215-768-3842 for information and tryout location.


BOCCE LEAGUES

In last Thursday’s women’s games of the South Philadelphia Bocce League, City Pizza defeated Southern Auto, 12-7, and PFC, 12-6; Mazza Bros. beat PFC, 12-5; and Southern took the win over Mazza, 12-1. In Tuesday’s men’s games, Pine Nuts defeated Rudi’s Formal Wear, 12-5, and Camilli Chiropractic, 12-7; Cacia’s Bakery beat Camilli, 12-5, and Chef’s Market, 12-5; Casa dei Pazzi took the win over Rudi’s, 12-9; and Chef’s Market defeated Casa, 12-8. Men’s games are played Tuesdays and women’s games are played Thursdays starting 7:30 p.m. at Guerin Recreation Center, 16th and Jackson streets.


CAPITOLO PLAYGROUND

DVYAA BASEBALL

The association is accepting registration for its spring baseball programs weeknights, 6-8, and Saturdays, 11 a.m.-1 p.m., at Barry Playground, 18th and Johnston streets. Age groups are 5-7 (tee-ball), 8-9 (peewee), 10-12 (majors) and 13-15 (seniors). Call 215-468-1265.

BASEBALL/TEE-BALL

Signups are being held Tuesdays and Thursdays from 6-8 p.m. at Murphy Rec Center, Third and Shunk streets, for the spring baseball and tee-ball league for ages 4-19. NEUMANN BOWLING

The three-time defending Catholic League champion St. John Neumann bowling team will begin its pursuit of an unprecedented four-peat this afternoon. The Pirates will face the winner of Tuesday’s opening-round match between Bonner and Kennedy-Kenrick at St. Monica Lanes at 3 p.m. The winner will advance to Tuesday’s semifinal match against Northern Division champ Father Judge. Senior Matt Stankiewicz has helped power Neumann to another strong season with a school-record 210 average, which also earned him a First Team All-Catholic nod. The four-year starter also tallied a 700 series in last Tuesday’s loss to St. Joe’s Prep.


PHILLY FLASH

PREP BOWLING

St. Joe’s Prep senior Mark Rubbo, of the 2800 block of South Iseminger Street, helped his bowling team clinch the Catholic League Southern Division title last Thursday against Kennedy-Kenrick. Rubbo set a school record with a high game of 258 and high series of 733. The captain, a four-year varsity athlete, enters the playoffs with a 204 average, good enough for a First Team All-Catholic nod. The Prep finished the regular season with a 37-11 record.


SABRES BASEBALL

Registration is being held every Monday and Wednesday from 6:30-8 p.m. and Saturday from 10 a.m.-1 p.m. through April at Sixth Street and Packer Avenue. The age divisions are 4-6 (tee-ball), 7-8, 9-10, 11-12, 13-15 and 16-19. The cost is $50 for tee-ball and $85 for all other divisions. All teams are welcome. SENATORS BASEBALL

The Philadelphia Senators youth baseball team will sponsor two 12-and-under teams this season. Based at Sunoco Field, the organization is seeking 11- and 12-year-olds who want to travel and compete against the best athletes from around the country while playing 80 games this spring and summer. SEYAA BASEBALL/TEE-BALL

Baseball and tee-ball registration is underway. The season will begin April 24. The age divisions are 4-6 (tee-ball), 7-8 (pitching machine), 8-10 and 10-12 (live pitch), and 13-15 and 16-19 (Babe Ruth). The cost is $60 for tee-ball and $70 for all other divisions. SHOT TOWER BASKETBALL

In the opener, the Kings defeated the Celtics 22-18. Tom Siperko (four points), Danielle Koskinas (six) and Ryan Coney (four) led the Kings’ offense, while Fred Hicks, Luke McHugh and Kevin Meehan scored four points apiece for the Celtics. In the nightcap, the Nets defeated the Sixers 24-20. Joe Renzi (six), Phillip Connell (four) and Max Cohen (four) led the Nets’ offense, while Eric McNeil (six), Justin Brown (four) and Isabella Brilliant (four) hustled for the Sixers.


SOUTH PHILLY ARC SOFTBALL

TEN STAR BASKETBALL CAMP

Applications are being accepted for the Ten Star All-Star Summer Basketball Camp. The camp, which is by invitation only, is for boys and girls ages 10-19. Past participants include Michael Jordan, Tim Duncan, Vince Carter and Grant Hill. College basketball scholarships are available for players named to the All-American team.
