Beloved doc dies at 65

Jack Jenofsky, an obstetrician-gynecologist who practiced for 30 years at Methodist Hospital, died July 24. He was 65.

Dr. Jenofsky, who lived in Moorestown, N.J., but was born and raised in South Philadelphia, died at Thomas Jefferson University Hospital of complications from lung cancer.

A graduate of Olney High School, Dr. Jenofsky joined Methodist Hospital in 1969 after earning degrees from both Drexel University and Jefferson Medical College.

Longtime partner Dr. Richard Dittrich said that Dr. Jenofsky was a "warm, gentle and charismatic man who was respected by his colleagues."

He added that "wherever Jack went, people knew him. He was like a brother to me."

Dr. Jenofsky loved what he did because he thought delivering babies was the best part of being a doctor, Dittrich said. In fact, he held the title of the "doctor who delivered 10,000 babies."

Because of their close friendship and business partnership, Dittrich cannot bear to take Dr. Jenofsky’s name off their practice.

"I will be continuing our practice and taking care of all of our patients," said Dittrich. "I cannot take Jack’s name off of the door because I hold so much respect for him. I really do miss him."

Dr. Jenofsky is survived by his wife, Gretchen Barthold Jenofsky, daughter Michelle Ray, son Chad and a sister.

His funeral was held July 28 at the Platt Memorial Chapels in Cherry Hill, N.J., and his burial was at Crescent Memorial Park in Pennsauken, N.J.
