Saints lose opener

The Ss. John Neumann-Maria Goretti football team lost 15-12 to North Catholic in Saturday’s Catholic League Blue regular-season opener in Wildwood, N.J.

It wasn’t the desired start for the newly christened Saints, but it’s only the first game in a long season. The loss will count in the division standings.

Several Neumann-Goretti players made strong contributions Saturday. The standout was senior running back Bruce Holloman, who tallied 132 yards on the day, including 80 rushing yards and two touchdowns. The Saints finished the game with 285 rushing yards, which included 74 yards from sophomore Anthony Davis.

Next up for the Saints is Saturday’s home opener against Bishop McDevitt.
