On the road again

Prior to this season, the Bok football team had never played under the Friday Night Lights. Suddenly, the boys from South Philly find themselves heading back to the suburbs for their second night game of the season. This time they’ll face the Unionville Indians, the undefeated Southern Chester County champs. They are tough opposition, averaging close to 31 points per game, while surrendering a mere 7.9 points per game on defense. In four of their last five games, they’ve held the opposition to seven points or less, including two shutouts.

"They are a very good team and they have all the weapons," Bok football coach Tom DeFelice said.

Many of the players experienced the excitement of the state tournament atmosphere last fall when the Wildcats made the trip to Great Valley and lost 35-0. Bok opened the 2005 season at Upper Moreland, where they picked up a 10-0 victory. Even though the squad is a perfect 9-0 this season, DeFelice knows his team is not considered the favorite.

"Being the underdogs definitely helps," he said. "I like being the underdog because it gives us a little more motivation to work harder."

Offensively, Bok is averaging 27.5 points per game and will look for the backfield combination of Luke Lassiter and Keith Williams to spark its offense. The duo has combined for close to 1,000 rushing yards and 10 touchdowns this season.

Unionville coach Pat Clark has seen Bok play a few times this season and said his team is looking forward to the challenge of stopping them.

"I am impressed with their defense, team speed and aggressiveness," Clark said. "Their secondary is solid and they cover well.”
