Gruesome discovery

A 25-year-old woman made a shocking discovery at 8:48 p.m. Monday inside a Southwest home on the 2100 block of Gould Street.

In the basement, she found a woman lying on the floor with a plastic bag over her head and multiple stab wounds to the chest, Homicide Capt. Mike Costello said.

At 9:05 p.m., Medic 19 pronounced Salina Sayyid Brown, 22, from the 2000 block of Mercy Street, dead at the scene.

Costello said there were no signs of forced entry and detectives believe the woman was killed there.

At press time, detectives had no motive or suspects, but were trying to locate the live-in boyfriend of the woman who made the discovery, Costello said. That man had a previous relationship with the victim and the couple has a child together, the captain said.

The cause of death from the Medical Examiner’s Office had not been determined by press time.

Child drowns in Ocean City

A 7-year-old boy drowned while swimming with his 6-year-old brother in Ocean City, N.J., at about 6:30 p.m. Sunday.

Quran Cliett from the 2200 block of South 15th Street was in the water with his younger brother on the 700 block of the beach where no lifeguards were on duty, Ocean City Police Lt. William Wilent said, adding guards end their day at 5:30 p.m.

The brothers wandered over by a jetty, possibly taken by rip current, the lieutenant said. "There is no way we will ever know what really happened," he added.

The boys’ mother and other family members, who were on the beach at the time, rushed to assist them, but Quran had disappeared, Wilent said.

The Coast Guard, fire department boats, police and emergency services searched for the child who was found shortly after 7 p.m. near Sixth and Boardwalk.

Medics failed to resuscitate the boy and he was pronounced dead at Shore Memorial Hospital.

In a press release, Wilent said, "Our hearts go out to the family members that must now bear this tragedy."

Shoved, then shot

When a man was bumped by one of three males walking down a street, an argument broke out with a shooting as the result. The gunfire erupted Sunday at 10:30 p.m. on the 700 block of South 17th Street.

The 21-year-old was walking when he encountered three men, one of whom shoved him, Detective Joe Chiaro of South Detectives said.

The physical contact led to an exchange of words and, as the victim turned to leave, he heard a loud bang, felt pain in his left arm and realized he had taken a bullet.

The injured man walked to Graduate Hospital, where he was treated and released.

The woman was driving at about 11:45 a.m. Monday on the 2300 block of Mifflin Street. When she reached the intersection of Mifflin and 23rd, she heard five to six gunshots before noticing her rear window was destroyed, Detective Joe Chiaro of South Detectives said.

Tipster Web site established

In an effort to encourage the public to come forward with information on the June 13 shooting of 4-year-old Nashay Little, officials have established an online tip form on the police department Web site. Citizens may submit information and remain anonymous, Capt. Benjamin Naish of the Police Public Affairs Unit said.

As of Tuesday, the site had generated no solid leads, Detective Joe Chiaro of South Detectives said. A lot of the information posted has been "bogus," he added.

Investigators had hoped by providing an anonymous form, information would filter in that would lead police to an identification and arrest of those involved in the child’s shooting.

Little was released from the hospital earlier this week.

Sigel case active, despite no leads

A month after rap artist Beanie Sigel told police he was shot and robbed on the 2200 block of McClellan Street, investigators are still probing the case.

"We don’t have anything new, unless a witness comes forward," Detective Thorsten Lucke of South Detectives said Tuesday.

Investigators have combed through hours of videotape from Z-Bar, the after-hours spot at 100 Spring Garden St. Sigel patronized hours before being allegedly attacked, Lucke said.

Detectives used the footage to confirm Sigel’s whereabouts and to make sure he was, in fact, wearing the jewelry he said was stolen in the alleged robbery, the detective said.

"We don’t know what happens when he leaves the bar and before he says he got shot," Lucke said.

May 25, the 32-year-old told police four men in two cars boxed in his vehicle at about 7:45 a.m. that day, pulled revolvers and robbed him of jewelry and several thousands of dollars in cash.

Three to four shots were fired when Sigel started to struggle with his attackers. He was treated and released from HUP.

Born Dwight Grant, the rapper grew up on the 2200 block of Sigel Street, a block from where the alleged crime took place.
