BASKETBALL EVENT

Paul "Earthquake" Moore hosts the 13th annual Playing for the King Day to promote peace and honor the Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.

Moore has organized a youth basketball game for ages 16 and up, a community cleanup and a reenactment march starting at 66th Street and Woodland Avenue Jan. 19. The cleanup begins at 10 a.m. in the area surrounding the New Fellowship Missionary Baptist Church, 70th Street and Woodland. Volunteers should meet in front of the church. The game follows at 1 p.m. at the Urban Neighborhood Renewal Service Gymnasium behind the church.

Game participation is free and the march at 5 p.m. is open to the public.

FREE-THROW CHAMPIONSHIP

The Knights of Columbus hosts a free-throw competition 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Jan. 17 at Guerin Recreation Center, 16th and Jackson streets. Registration begins at 10 a.m. for ages 10 to 14. Proof of age is required as is parental consent. Call Quinto Andreoli, 215-389-8114.

HELP FIGHT CANCER

The Neumann-Goretti girls’ basketball team is holding a "Think Pink" night 7:30 Jan. 20 when the Lady Saints host St. Hubert. The school is honoring breast cancer survivors. Fans are asked to wear pink and will get in to the game with a $3 donation to the Women’s Basketball Coaches Association Cancer Fund.

PEE WEE BASKETBALL

The Point Breeze Civic Association offers a pee wee basketball development program for ages 6 to 9 9:30 a.m. Saturdays at Vare Middle School, 24th Street and Snyder Avenue (enter on Snyder). Registration deadline is Jan. 24. Call 215-755-6628.
