KOON UPDATE

Paul Koon, of the 1400 block of South Taylor Street, enjoyed a successful trip to Ireland earlier this month with Team USA. Koon defeated John Sweeney via decision in a dual meet. The heavyweight was rated No. 1 in his weight class by USA Boxing for the fourth quarter of 2008.


NCAA TOURNAMENT NEWS

It’s wall-to-wall basketball at the Wachovia Center today with four opening-round NCAA Tournament games. The action starts with No. 8 BYU taking on No. 9 Texas A&M at 12:30 p.m., followed by No. 1 Connecticut facing No. 16 Chattanooga 30 minutes after the first contest ends. The highlight of the day pits No. 3 Villanova against No. 14 American at 7:20 p.m., followed by No. 6 UCLA taking on No. 11 Virginia Commonwealth.

The winners advance to Saturday’s doubleheader. Games for the sold-out event are being shown live on CBS.
